Yearly Maintenance

Fall / Winter Layup

  • Oil and oil filter changed every fall before winter layup
  • On years where summer usage is trending over 100 hours, changed oil only (not filter) mid-season
  • Transmission oil changed every other fall before winter layup
  • Disconnect air conditioner seawater intake hose from seacock, insert funnel, run unit while pouring in 1 gallon of pink antifreeze, reattach hose
  • Bypass and drain hot water tank, drain fresh water system, pour 2 gallons of pink antifreeze into tank, run both faucets until pink flows freely
  • Disconnect anchor washdown pump seawater intake hose from seacock, insert funnel, run unit while pouring in 1 gallon of pink antifreeze, reattach hose
  • Pump out holding tank, disconnect head intake hose from head pump, attach temporary hose, insert funnel, pump 1 gallon of pink through, reattach hose
  • Five engine / transmission zincs checked and changed as needed
  • Drain seawater from engine and transmission, shop-vac water from sea strainer, disconnect intake hose from sea strainer, attach temporary hose, fill strainer with pink antifreeze, insert other end of hose in 5-gal bucket of pink antifreeze, start engine and run until all antifreeze is consumed, reattach intake hose
  • Following haul-out, open all seacocks to drain seacock and hose
  • Electronics removed and stored off boat
  • Engine wiped down with degreaser
  • Replace oil absorbant pads in engine drip tray
  • Shop-vac water from bilge
  • Replace "bilge sock" oil absorber

Spring / Recommissioning

  • Fuel (racor & secondary) filters, air filter, and crankcase breather changed every spring after first tank of fuel
  • Impeller changed every 2-3 years
  • Seacocks disassembled and greased using Morey's Red waterproof grease every 2-3 years
  • Water tank shocked every spring with 1 pint bleach to full tank of water, flushed through until clean and clear at both faucets, left in tank for 1 week, then flushed and refilled
  • 2 coats cetol applied to exterior teak every spring
  • Prop nut zinc changed every year, using loctite blue to secure bolt - http://www.boatzincs.com/prop_nut_specs-rep.html (model F for 1 1/2" shaft)
  • Interior wood treated with Howard's Feed & Wax as needed, restored with Howard's restor-a-finish as needed
  • Professionally washed and waxed every spring (mostly by Schuman Clean at Herrington Harbour North), maintained with Meguiar's Flagship Premium Wash-N-Wax
